Description

Nitrico Goop Live Aquarium Filter Bacteria – Fish Tank Cycling Starter

Establish beneficial bacteria in your aquarium with Nitrico Goop Live Filter Bacteria, a concentrated live bacterial treatment designed to help populate new aquarium filters and support the natural nitrogen cycle.

Containing live Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter nitrifying bacteria, Nitrico Goop helps convert harmful ammonia into nitrite and then into nitrate, supporting biological filtration and healthier aquarium water conditions.

Unlike conventional bottled bacterial treatments, Nitrico Goop is supplied as a pouch of live cultured bacteria, ready to introduce into your aquarium and filtration system.

Produced in a dedicated bacterial digester without exposure to fish, the bacteria are cultured independently of established aquarium filter media, helping avoid the disease cross-contamination risks associated with transferring media between fish tanks.

Available in different treatment capacities, including 50L, 75L, 100L, 150L and 250L, allowing you to select the appropriate quantity for your aquarium.

Key Features:

  • Live Nitrifying Bacteria – Contains Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria to support biological filtration
  • Supports Aquarium Cycling – Helps establish beneficial bacterial populations in new aquarium filters
  • Ammonia & Nitrite Processing – Supports the conversion of harmful nitrogen compounds through the aquarium nitrogen cycle
  • Concentrated Live Culture – Supplied as a pouch containing large quantities of live beneficial bacteria
  • Professionally Cultured – Produced in a dedicated bacterial digester without exposure to fish
  • Helps Establish New Filters – Designed to populate suitable biological aquarium filtration systems
  • Different Aquarium Capacities – Choose the appropriate pouch for your aquarium volume
  • Easy Application – Supplied with clear instructions for introducing the bacteria
  • Supports Biological Balance – Helps establish the bacteria responsible for processing aquarium waste

How Nitrico Goop Works

Nitrico Goop contains live nitrifying bacteria that play an important role in the aquarium nitrogen cycle.

Fish produce ammonia through normal biological processes, while uneaten food and decaying organic material can also contribute to ammonia levels.

Ammonia is toxic to aquarium fish and must be processed by beneficial bacteria within the filtration system.

The bacteria supplied in Nitrico Goop support two important stages of biological filtration:

  • Nitrosomonas Bacteria: Help convert ammonia into nitrite.
  • Nitrobacter Bacteria: Help convert nitrite into nitrate.

Establishing these bacterial populations helps support a functioning biological filter and maintain suitable aquarium water conditions.

Ideal for New Aquarium Filters

Nitrico Goop is designed to help establish biological filtration in new aquarium setups.

When added to a suitable filter system, the live bacteria can begin colonising the biological filtration media and processing ammonia produced within the aquarium.

For best results, ensure your aquarium has suitable filtration media, adequate water circulation and appropriate water chemistry before introducing the bacteria.

Professionally Cultured Live Bacteria

Nitrico Goop bacteria are cultured in a dedicated bacterial digester rather than being collected from existing fish aquarium filters.

Because the bacteria are grown without exposure to fish, this avoids the potential disease transfer associated with moving established filtration media between different aquariums.

Each pouch is supplied with instructions explaining how to introduce the bacteria into your aquarium system.

Available Variations:

Option Recommended Aquarium Capacity
Stocking Up See Product Instructions

Nitrico Goop 250L Up To 250 Litres

Please Note: The Stocking Up option is listed separately. Please check the manufacturer's instructions for its specific intended application.

Choosing the Correct Pouch Size

The recommended Nitrico Goop pouch size is based on aquarium volume and a sensible fish stocking density.

For example, a 50L pouch is designed to provide sufficient bacteria for a suitably stocked aquarium containing up to 50 litres of water.

If your aquarium is heavily stocked or produces unusually high quantities of ammonia, a larger pouch may be appropriate.

However, the manufacturer advises against using more than double the recommended dose, as excessive bacterial die-off may contribute to temporary nitrite increases.

Biological Filtration Capacity

According to the manufacturer, the recommended pouch size is intended to process the equivalent of approximately 2ppm ammonia within 24 hours at 26°C, under suitable aquarium conditions.

Actual performance depends on water chemistry, temperature, available oxygen, filtration capacity and other environmental factors.

Nitrico Goop cannot compensate for an inadequate aquarium filter or insufficient water circulation.

Important Water Chemistry Requirements

Live nitrifying bacteria require suitable water conditions to establish and function effectively.

Before adding Nitrico Goop, the manufacturer recommends:

  • pH: Above 6.5
  • KH: Not Below 4
  • Water Circulation: Adequate flow through biological filter media
  • Oxygen: Suitable aeration to support bacterial activity
  • Water Quality: Stable conditions without excessive ammonia release

Low carbonate hardness can affect the survival and activity of nitrifying bacteria, potentially disrupting the biological filtration process.

Important Information for Active Substrates

Some active aquarium substrates, including certain aquarium soils, can release significant quantities of ammonia during the first few weeks after installation.

These substrates may also reduce carbonate hardness by absorbing KH from the water.

Both conditions can interfere with the establishment of beneficial nitrifying bacteria.

If using a new active substrate, monitor ammonia, pH and KH until the aquarium water chemistry has stabilised before adding Nitrico Goop.

Directions for Use:

  1. Ensure the aquarium filtration system is installed and operating correctly.
  2. Test aquarium water for ammonia, nitrite, pH and KH.
  3. Confirm that pH is above 6.5 and KH is at least 4.
  4. Select the appropriate Nitrico Goop pouch for your aquarium volume.
  5. Introduce the live bacteria promptly after delivery, following the supplied instructions.
  6. Follow the manufacturer's guidance regarding the timing of fish introduction.
  7. Monitor ammonia and nitrite levels regularly while the biological filter establishes.
  8. Carry out appropriate partial water changes with dechlorinated water if harmful ammonia or nitrite levels develop.

Important: The manufacturer recommends adding the bacteria soon after delivery and introducing fish at the same time or within approximately 48 hours where appropriate. Fish should only be introduced when water conditions are suitable, with ongoing testing and monitoring.

Avoid Excessive Dosing

Adding significantly more bacteria than the aquarium can support may result in bacterial die-off.

This can sometimes cause a temporary increase in nitrite levels as the bacterial population adjusts to the available waste supply.

The manufacturer does not recommend using more than double the suggested dose without further guidance.

If nitrite levels increase, monitor water quality and carry out an appropriate partial water change using dechlorinated water.
