Unlike simple sodium bicarbonate or carbonate products, this advanced buffer combines sodium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, and potassium salts of carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, sulfate, and borate. The unique combination stabilises your aquarium’s pH effectively, keeping it safely balanced.
This product addresses the complexities of marine buffering chemistry. Total Alkalinity in saltwater is influenced by carbonate, bicarbonate, and borate. While common salt mixes push pH closer to 7.8 due to bicarbonate, the specially designed pK of Marine Buffer is slightly above 8.3. This configuration counters the bicarbonate influx during water changes and prevents dips below the desired pH value. As the first buffer to incorporate borate salts, it stands as a reliable choice for sustaining a stable marine pH.
For proper use, dissolve the buffer in freshwater before application. This initial step aids in gradually achieving a consistent pH of 8.3, contributing to the overall health of your marine environment. Marine Buffer is also formulated to enhance alkalinity by approximately 1 meq/L with each application.
