The Red Sea REEF-FRAME 170 Marine Aquarium is a compact reef-ready aquarium system combining a 136 litre display tank with a 39 litre in-cabinet sump, providing a manufacturer-rated total system water volume of 174 litres. With a 60 x 53 x 50 cm display, it offers a practical foundation for creating a marine reef aquarium with live rock, corals and suitable marine fish. The system brings together an ultra-clear glass aquarium, reinforced cabinet, filtration sump and integrated plumbing, allowing you to select additional equipment to suit your reef.

Part of the Red Sea REEF-FRAME range, the aquarium features ultra-clear glass bonded with high-quality euro-silicone for long-term structural integrity. The glass construction includes a 10 mm front panel, 12 mm side panels, 10 mm bottom panel and 8 mm back panel. Eurobracing provides additional reinforcement around the aquarium, while the clear viewing panels allow detailed observation of fish, corals and aquascaping.

The REEF-FRAME 170 is supported by a marine-spec plywood cabinet designed to support the full contour of the aquarium. Adjustable levelling feet help achieve a level installation, while the cabinet provides enclosed space for the filtration sump and associated equipment. The REEF-FRAME range is available in black, white and classic oak cabinet finishes, allowing the aquarium to complement different room settings.

The aquarium features a central overflow box that conceals the plumbing and incorporates a large surface skimmer. Removable surface-skimming combs provide convenient access for cleaning, helping simplify routine maintenance. Enlarged downflow piping with a rectangular profile supports efficient water movement through the overflow system while helping reduce operating noise.

The REEF-FRAME 170 includes the ReefGate high-precision gate valve, allowing accurate adjustment of the water flowing from the aquarium to the sump. When balanced with a suitable return pump, this helps achieve quieter operation. Hydrodynamically designed plumbing supports water circulation, while optional metric and USA connector kits provide additional plumbing configuration options.

A single 25 mm curved return outlet directs water back into the display aquarium. The outlet is designed to support effective water distribution and connects to a compatible return pump, which can be selected separately according to the requirements of the aquarium.

The integrated 39 litre Reef Spec sump provides dedicated space for essential filtration equipment beneath the display. Its protein skimmer chamber features adjustable water height, allowing you to set the operating depth according to the requirements of a compatible skimmer. An integrated bubble trap helps prevent air bubbles from being carried back into the aquarium through the return pump.

The sump also includes a removable mechanical filtration compartment, making it ReefMat-ready. This allows a compatible Red Sea ReefMat automatic roller filter to be installed as an optional upgrade, providing an alternative to conventional mechanical filtration. Unlike larger REEF-FRAME models, the REEF-FRAME 170 does not support the optional dedicated refugium divider.
